(WARNING!! Boring entry. Not too late to leave now)
When I re-activated my blog account, and renamed this blog 'pseudo.perfection', I was in a state of disliking this world.
I feel that we are living in a 'made-up world'. We think the world is the way it is, because we're conditioned to think in this way. Conditioned by the culture, the society, the environment, and most of all, the media. We discussed this in class back in uni days, and I admit I never thought much about it then. But now, I find this notion very intriguing, perhaps cuz I'm beginning to feel it.
A link that Audrey gave me today reminded me of my thoughts on this notion. Gibson coined the term 'consensual hallucinations' in his book sometime ago.
We used to refer to his Neuromancer all the time when writing essays in uni, yet I don't remember coming across this notion. Okkkk, I know, its cuz I just flipped through pages & scanned paragraphs for familiar terms that I can plonk into my essays.
I still don't know what he's referring to (and I'm lazy to read up on it), but these two means mean to me, the same as my idea of 'pseudo perfection', except, 'consensual hallucinations' is more general.
It sounds to me that 'consensual hallucinations' happens when there is consensus among people that something exist, whether or not it might.
No offence, but like FaLunGong. It became a belief & religion for people, because these people have been conditioned into believing that something is true, that they are able to survive being burnt alive (of cuz they die). These people with similar delusions come together, and believe that what they think is true, and see it as reality. This is their reality, while to others, they are simply out of their minds.
Pseudo perfection is my idea of how the world is presenting themselves. They put on a front. & because it is so common, and they are so good at convincing, we see it as reality. Lies become the truth when its so rampant & more and more people start believing it.
We are living in a world of lies, people. The world is not what it presents itself to be. This world of lies, pretense & dreams.
The people you know, are not what they appear to be. People lie and pretend, they fight and act, to protect, live and pursue their dreams. I think many of us know that we are living in a make-believe world, but many also choose to live in this lie.
That, I believe, links to consensual hallucination.
(my thoughts are all jumbled up at the moment, that's y my words are too)
