When we were just little girls, he used to make us laugh all the time. But he is also the one that we fear most. He gave us piggy backs, let us hang and swing on on his arm, but also shouted and does not hesitate to punish us if we were naughty.
I remembered once, he hit me so hard he left a handprint. He was very angry because I threw sand into my mum's bag when she refused to let me wear her sunglasses at the beach. I was 5. I ignored him the whole day after, and he kept trying to make up by asking me if i wanna buy crayons, hairclips, etc when we went to the cheapo dunno-what shop after.
Around the same period, I underwent an operation for my neck. He stayed in the hospital with me everyday, and bought me many colouring books and toys to distract me from my fear. He was there with a soft toy for me when I was pushed out from the operating theatre, and crying.
He hung presents outside the windows for us every Christmas, including Mary, my first favourite soft toy, a lamb.
He used to bring us to different places for nice food. Pays attention to what we want. If we ever casually mention we want to eat something, he will get it for us the next time he sees it. He still does, though his memory is failing a little and he is not as conscientious as before.
When I was in secondary school, I became more rebellious. Shouted and slammed my room door all the time when I don't get my way. I think that was when we grew further and further apart.
Though we don't talk much nor spend much time together now, my father is still the person I respect most in this world.
For us, he eats only after we have finished eating.
For us, he cleans the house and makes us fruit juice.
For us, he puts down his pride to take on labour jobs when his business failed.
For us, he goes out of his way to run errands.
For us, he takes care of my mum's parents as if they were his own.
For us, he stood strong and take everything in his control when his beloved father passed on.
For us, he wakes up early in the morning, works and works, fall sick and get tired.
For us, he grew old.
And because of us, he endures all hardship and never complains.
He may not be Donald Trump, but he works his hardest to give us the best he can.
I'm proud of who I am today because of him.
So my sister and I put in a little effort every Father's Day to make something for him.
